This information is at a good level and I would be comfortable citing this source.
Summary
A study on Singaporeans and fast food was done about 10 years ago. This study showed that fast food impacted the health of Singaporeans by as much as 80 percent. If someone at fast food for more than four times a week then they would be at risk for heart disease by up to 80 percent. If they at it more than twice a week then the risk is still at 30 percent. The main standards that can help someone when it comes to fast food, such as sex, BMI, or even smoking status had little effect on the study. During this study, seventeen people actually died because of too much fast food intake.
Response
I feel like this article is very impacting on seeing the health effects of fast food consumption. I find it crazy that the people had an 80 percent chance to get heart disease. This makes me actually think about fast food and the effects on my body as well as the effects on other peoples bodies. The suggestion that people consume fast food no more than twice a week is a great suggestion according to the information and I would even suggest not eating fast food more than once a week.
I would complicate your credibility and usefulness statement with one thing. By this point in the project, it would be great to see you going more in-depth with the topic. Newspaper articles are great in the beginning of a project to get the lay of the land, but as you advance the project, it's best to bring in more scholarly sources.
ReplyDeleteThe summary captures most of the main points though the part where you talk about the researchers controlling for the gender, BMI, and smoking status of people got a little confusing. You did misrepresent the source in one spot. The twice a week diet of fast food was linked to a probability of developing diabetes not heart disease.
I agree with you that an 80% higher chance of getting heart disease should make us pause, especially since the list of foods studies included pizza and hot dogs, two items that people might not count when tallying up how much fast food they eat.
I think your suggested to limit fast food intake to once a week is a wise one.
